29 YEARS OF HISTORY DOWN THE DRAIN

I said goodbye to an old friend today.  He had been their for every major occurrence in my life from 20 years of age.  From when I first met Pam, through undergraduate school, vet school, marriage, the birth of all my children. All of the moves: from Texas to Idaho to Spokane to Houston and then to Pa.  He sat with me at countless ALC plays, numerous Davy Matthews concerts and at least 2 Phish concerts.  He's shared in the experience of my continuing path of sanctification and Gods graciousness and mercy in mine and my families life. He was their for Josh and Abby's wedding and also at Nathaniel's and Hannah's ,even though he wasn't quite himself. He was at every single one of Jericho's soccer games since she was 10 that I went to.  He's sat there with me at Caleb and Gabes recitals and Ethan and Seths soccer games. It's safe to say he has been there through thick and thin, never giving me any lip even when it may have been apppropriate.  So how do you say goodbye to such a loyal friend.  Some one who is such a part of you and your past.  I pondered that as I listened to Stairway to Heaven twice on Gabe's Ipod.  I didn't want to face him when I said so long. I just wanted to do it and get it over with.  But that was cowardly, and someone who had been through so much with you deserved better.  Once that was decided actually turning to do it reminded me of watching somebody preparing to jump of a cliff.  Several false starts. Numerous approaches towards the edge with confidence fading with each step.  After all, what would be the consequences of this goodbye?  We were parting on good terms but it was sudden.  So I played Stairway To Heaven one more time, for old times sake back at Casa del Sol in College Station, Tx., turned to the mirror and during Jimmy Page's guitar solo took the razor and shaved off my moustache and said "we will meet again old friend though no doubt we will both be a little grayer."

Test Post

Here's a quote I heard on the radio the other day.  It will serve as a test post.  Thanks for your help Gabe.
